NEW YORK (CNN) -- A drug that was once used to treat erectile dysfunction has been found to cost around $2 billion a year, according to a new report. It costs the same as Viagra, the world's most famous drug, but with a slightly higher price tag.
The drug, sold under the brand name Levitra, has been on the market for years, but it has been found to be expensive for many people, particularly older men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. It's one of the few drugs that has been approved for use in the United States, and it's also one of the few drugs that is effective at treating the underlying issue.
The drug's label was changed to reflect the price, but it's still available in many pharmacies, including some that offer it for free.
The drug's price has been rising in recent years, especially since the drug was first approved in 1998 for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension, a condition that causes high blood pressure in the lungs.
